How Soon Can I Start Mental Health Treatment?
It depends on space in the men’s or women’s program, the level of care and your insurance. Admissions gives you an honest answer on the first call, and there are things you can do to speed it up.

Four things decide when you can start treatment
Space in the program
Openings in the men’s and women’s programs change week to week.
Level of care
PHP and IOP can sometimes start sooner than residential, and you can step up later if needed.
Insurance
Some plans need an authorization before you start. Admissions requests it with your plan.
Records and medical needs
Recent records and a medication list help the team confirm the right level of care.
Six things that help you start treatment sooner
Call early
Before a hospital discharge, or as soon as you are thinking about it.
Have the insurance card ready
Member ID and the policyholder’s details speed up the benefits check.
Share records
A discharge summary and current medication list, or consent for admissions to request them.
The patient on the call
The assessment and consent need the adult who will be in treatment.
Plan travel early
If you are coming from out of the area, admissions helps plan the trip.
Arrange work or school
A leave of absence, FMLA paperwork, or someone to cover at home.
How Wings sets a realistic admission date
A start date depends on space, your plan and your records. Promising a date before those are clear would not be fair to you. Admissions tells you what is realistic and keeps you updated.
Call before discharge
Several days before discharge is best. Admissions works with the hospital team on records, authorization and timing.
After a hospital stay →The fastest way to know is to call admissions
Availability changes week to week. Admissions can tell you what is open now, check your insurance and start the assessment on the same call.
How admission works →Wings works with many PPO insurance plans
Admissions verifies your benefits before admission, free and confidential. For Medi-Cal or Medicare, admissions can point you to programs that accept them.
Questions about how soon you can start treatment
Same-day starts, bed availability, waiting lists and hospital discharges.
Don't see your question?
Admissions answers calls 9 a.m.–5 p.m., seven days a week. Calls are confidential.

Sometimes admission can happen quickly. The start date depends on the assessment, your insurance and an open bed, and admissions gives you a realistic date. If you are in danger today, call 911 or go to the nearest ER. For a mental health or suicide crisis, call or text 988.
Does Wings have beds available?
Openings in the men’s and women’s programs change week to week. Admissions tells you honestly what is available when you call.
Is there a waiting list?
When there is no immediate opening, admissions can explain the likely timing and the options in the meantime, such as starting in PHP or IOP.
What slows admission down?
Waiting for an insurance authorization, missing records, or travel that has not been planned. Calling early helps with all three.
I am leaving a psychiatric hospital. Can I come straight to Wings?
Often, yes, once you are medically stable. Call before discharge so admissions can coordinate records, authorization and timing with the hospital team.
